      • THINKING OF MOVING?

That's crazy to move for a church right?

Maybe, it's a key decision on where you live and die.

Okay, church is important, not something that we do for God, but where He serves us, feeds us with Christ's body, blood and benefits, reminds us of and seals us into Christ's life, death and resurrection in baptism, proclaims us "Not Guilty" and "Perfectly Worthy" because Christ kept the full will and law of God in our place and took our punishment on the cross, and brings heaven to meet earth with His temple where Christ proclaims our name in the assembly with all those who died trusting in His promise of the Messiah to come as Christ who has come, from Adam & Eve, to Abraham & Jacob, to Peter & Paul, to Martin Luther & your loved ones who have died in the faith. It also prepares us for suffering and death, united to Christ's life, death and resurrection, joining that cosmic temple assembly and awaiting Him to recreate this world as a new Eden.

So maybe finding the best expression of this for you and your family is really important and finding a good church might be something to put on the list to consider when choosing where to live. For what it's worth, finding a good church was a major historical reason why people moved and where they chose to put down roots.

We're partial to this church, Faith Lutheran Louisville, in the greater Louisville, Kentucky / Indiana region, but there are others. Here's a directory of places, the Lutheran Liturgy Directory to look across the country. It doesn't mean they will all be great, but it's a place to start.

Not everyone is planning on moving, or can even if they wanted to. But if your job allows, or if you're looking for a new place to set up shop, the greater Kentuckianna region is pretty nifty. It's Americana, distilled. A metro area with a low cost of living. Bourbon, Bluegrass & Baseball. Church Downs runs races throughout the year and Derby is like the Superbowl meets Mardi Gras decked out in cosplay with music, marathons & races, air shows and the like. College sports, minor league baseball and major league soccer with nationally renown state and national parks for hiking and camping. Nationally renown art shows and music festivals. The city is ringed by biking and running trails with parks by Olmsted. A national logistics and trades hub with various software and technology industries and nearby military bases. Across the river in Indiana there's historic downtowns, Amish communities, farms and country properties and acreage. All in all, a major metro area with easy access to land and the country, a low cost of living with various other major metro hubs like Cincy & Indy within an easy drive.

        "I'm a young family."

        Build a firm foundation.

Find a church not based on entertainment and activities, but one where your kids can grow using the liturgy, where they're prepared for everything life and death can throw at them. Find one with sunday school and education that focuses not on morals or rules or how to be a better person, but the text of scripture, the story of who Christ is and what He has done for them. Find a church with a catechism class that isn't filling out worksheets they'll soon forget, but learning core theology, building firm foundations through the story of scripture.

Check the Lutheran Liturgy Directory to start, and if you're in the area or considering a move, we have all this at Faith Lutheran. Various families of all ages with kids from infants to teens with homeschooling well represented. People working in crafts & trades and tech & finance with plenty of opportunities to help, serve, and learn from one another. Kentuckianna has a wide mix of schools and a large homeschooling scene, with long springs and falls for parks and outside activities, and libraries and universities offering free events, art, music and the like.

        "I'm a single dude."

        We hear you.

Many a church is overly feminized. The good news is you don't have to go Eastern Orthodox or Roman Catholic Latin mass to avoid it. Just pick one where the Pastor cares enough to stand up for his sheep and train his elders, officers and male laity to be leaders and priest of their households. Find one with a service that's transcendent, you know, where you're not embarrassed to take a friend.

The Lutheran Liturgy Directory is a good place to start, and if you're able you should check out Faith Lutheran. Active church planting and college evanglism programs, Pints & Prophets nights (self-explanatory), and deep-dive, PhD-led theology bootcamps. And Louisville's great. Bourbon, basketball & baseball, boxing & ballistics, bluegrass and horses, a national hot rod show, pro rodeo destination and legendary race track - there's a reason it's America's top bachelor destination. That, mixed with a good church, is worth careful consideration over a slow sip.
